The Negev Development Authority
was founded in 1991 according to the Law of the Negev Development Authority.
The Authority was established to support and act toward the development of the Negev in various areas.
The roles of the Authority include encouragement and facilitation of preparation of program for the development of the Negev,
facilitation of economic development of the region, coordination between government offices,
authorities and bodies engaged in the development of the Negev, provision of information and initiation of studies on economic and social issues of the region.
The Negev Development Authority acts toward promotion of projects under its auspices and of projects budgeted by the state, and supervised by it. Likewise, the Authority operates two forums: "Tourism Forum in the Negev" which provides 'marketing umbrella' for the tourism activity in the region, and the "Economic Development Forum", which unites under its auspices all the economic development units in various authorities and councils throughout the region.
